Kiyo
A downloadable game
Welcome to Kiyo's playtest.
The Owl needs a first cohort of brave humans to test his techno-magic interplanetary connection system. Beware: as part of this first wave you'll be little more than cannon fodder.
What
Experience an early version of Rabbithole City and help us polish the game with your feedback. We built our engine from scratch so it's really important for us to test it on as many different computers as possible. Exotic bugs might lurk in the corners of Kiyo's world. Expect roughly 30 minutes of stealthy action adventure gameplay, and learn the ropes of our challenging game.
You'll be free to roam in the city and ride the metro between two neighborhoods (out of the four that will be featured in the full game).
How
Download the pack, unzip it, and then run Kiyo.exe
Known issues
- Certain antivirus software could block the game - that's a false positive, the exe is clean.
- In case of input loss, switching to the menu and back to the game should solve it.
- It requires a decent video card, but if it doesn't run smoothly there's a LowSpec option in the Video page of the menu.
- If playing on a laptop with dual card, please make sure the discrete card is selected by default for opengl (easy instructions for Nvidia)
About
Think about a combination of Thief, Splinter Cell and Oddworld, but in 2D pixel art. It's a stealthy metroidvania set in a funny, unconventional world. The game is built from scratch (no third-party engines, no AI support), starting from our ground breaking 2D pixel art engine that applies 3D lighting and raytraced, gameplay-affecting shadows to plain old sprites, in order to offer a unique look.
When you start it for the first time, a giant Owl from another planet startles you by hacking your computer, and recruits you for a vital mission. He introduces you to Kiyo and explains that a while ago the bunny race on their world started, oddly, to behave like Humans from Earth, with disastrous consequences. The bunnies found a way to spy on human society and figured out how to achieve global domination. They formed the greedy BunnyCorp and enslaved all the other animals, displacing them from their habitats to a modern city built to increase productivity and control.
For these reasons, to restore the natural order of things, Kiyo and his friends need a human's help!
